Young Ladies Asking Chris Brown to Beat Them?
I only just read about the flock of girls posting on Twitter during the Grammy’s that they would “let Chris Brown Beat them all night” (said in a variety of different ways). The worst one I read was “Everyone shut up about Chris Brown being a woman beater… shiiiit he can beat me up all night if he wants.”
Find some of the Tweets, here.
Upon reading this, my heart genuinely sank into my stomach. It sickens me to think anyone, especially young girls, would write this - whether it is a tongue-in-cheek attempt at saying that they think he is an attractive man or not. Do they think this is smart? Or funny? I can promise you that it is neither of those things. How disgusting that people could write such things and try to play down the issue or make light of the fact that he actually BEAT UP a woman. I’m all for “everyone makes mistakes”, but if somebody fucks up this badly I do not see how anybody - especially young women - can continue supporting him.
I may sound hypocritical as I’m aware some people I look up to have done some awful things in the past, but never would I ever try to play down such a serious crime. What fucking message does this send, that it’s OK to beat girls if the guy is hot?
Being a female does not entitle you to make light of such a serious problem going on in the world today simply because females are predominantly the ones who are directly affected; everybody has a right to be offended by this. What about the men who have had sisters, friends or even daughters as victims of abuse? Not to mention all those women (and men) who would not find such a statement funny in the slightest.
I have a sense of humour, but this isn’t funny, it’s genuinely sickening. And I bet if you had ever had to suffer abuse from a spouse or partner - if you ever had to feel the physical, verbal and mental anguish that they do - then you wouldn’t be saying such disgusting things.
In giving them the benefit of the doubt, I hope these girls wrote these statements on a whim without putting any thought into the matter. Perhaps they are too young to really comprehend how serious this situation is in the world - and will soon realise their mistake and take it down, embarrassed at how thoughtless they had been.
Otherwise, they should probably be ashamed of themselves.
